William S. Haynes Silver Alto Flute #31675
Wm. S. Haynes Silver Alto Flute #31675, Sterling silver body and keys. This stunning instrument is a rare find, with an illustrious provenance: owned originally by the infamous and celebrated Jazz Musician, Frank Wess (formerly of the Count Basie Orchestra)!
Purchased from the Chicago Instrument Co. in 1962, we have every reason to believe that Frank Wess was its original owner, as Count Basie and his Orchestra were on tour in Chicago – with Bobby Darin – at precisely that moment.
After Frank Wess sold this Haynes, it went on to have a very busy life in Broadway Orchestras, Radio City, countless recordings and in the nonstop worklife of a NYC freelance doubler.
Great intonation, fantastically consistent tone in all three registers, huge lower register, with the signature silver Haynes alto sound…so hard to come by! The pads are in high functioning, used condition, without the need to change any of them for a long time to come.
No dings, dents or scratches, in excellent condition.
